St. Seraphim of Sarov made this statement, Maintain a spirit of peace and you will save a thousand souls.  However, I not clear on how to acquire or maintain the spirit of peace to which he refers.  Second, how will my spirit of peace save many souls?

Thanks,

Norman Turner,Toronto

Mr Turner, you asked about this in January 2008 - did that thread not help?

I would suggest that you read and attend very carefully to the entire context of St Seraphim's statement.  Read the whole conversation with N. Motovilov from which that statement is drawn.  St Seraphim explains quite clearly how it is that we acquire the Holy Spirit.

I think it must be said that St Seraphim was talking in the context of the Orthodox faith. The acquisition (not 'maintain') of the 'spirit of peace', that is, the Holy Spirit, is something which he assumed would be done within the Church according to the spiritual life and theology of the Church. He is speaking to Motovilov about the Orthodox notion of theosis. True peace in Christ is only possible in the Orthodox Church.

I think it starts with Matthew 6, namely, the Beatitudes.

Second, how will my spirit of peace save many souls?

The same way martyrs and saints converted entire nations.
