Hello!

Can anyone explain the significance and what we can learn from the πρώτα βήματα του Χριστού (First Steps of Christ) icon?  Two links below show the supposed original and a clearer version.  Thank you and a blessed fast to all!

This image could be considered, at best, an attempt at showing the humanity of Christ, that He developed physically as a child. However, unlike the many hymns to the Mother of God which speak of the great mystery of God Incarnate taking milk from the Mother He has created (and icons of the Mother of God which proclaim this), I can recall no equivalent liturgical mention of the little Child taking His first steps.

There is a good chance such imagery may have come into the Orthodox world from non-Orthodox sources. At any rate, it is a very rare iconographic subject, and one which I feel is unnecessary to perpetuate.
