My son just turned eleven, and I can't wait to share the experience with him.  I've been twice before, with priests helping for the planning.

What age is appropriate for younger men to begin visiting the Holy Mountain?

I'm happy to be corrected, but I understood it to be around fifteen, or at least "old enough to shave".

That sounds right.  Thank you, Olga.

I read elsewhere that the age restriction was 18, but I remember pilgrims that were certainly younger than that, but they probably were old enough to shave.

When I visited in 2010 there were fathers taking their boys below that age limit to Athos. Some i saw were no older than say 8-10 years old. I was surprised because i thought no beardless youths were allowed.
