Patriarch Kirill has proposed a Pan-Orthodox Council on Mount Athos

Patriarch Kirill personally led a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church at the beginning of Friday in Switzerland summit of representatives of local Orthodox churches. The meeting devoted to the preparation of the Pan-Orthodox cathedral, which, according to preliminary data, it may take place this year in Istanbul, RIA "Novosti".

In December 2015, the Moscow Patriarchate does not rule out that because of rising tensions in relations between Russia and Turkey, the place of the cathedral may change.

"Patriarch Kirill sent a detailed speech to the meeting, one of the first affected him so was the situation with the canonical Orthodoxy in Ukraine. He drew attention to the seizure of churches in Ukraine, as well as threats from schismatics to the hierarchy of the Ukrainian Church, "- said the head of the patriarchal press service.

He added that as part of the official delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church is the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) Metropolitan of Kiev Onufry.

"Being on the pan-Orthodox Metropolitan Onuphrius meeting demonstrates the true unity of the canonical Orthodox Church in Ukraine with all the fullness of universal Orthodoxy," - said the priest.

I heard its now going to be held in Crete. Regardless if you look at the agenda, it will have no affect on the average layman or priest for that matter.

There are several articles about the forthcoming Synod on pravoslavie.ru, especially by Metropolitans Athanasios of Limassol and Hierotheos of Nafpaktos, as well as by Archpriest Andrew Phillips.

Historically most Holy Synods took place under major conflicts between political, theological, clerical and personal parties.

The pending one is no exception - fights will take place in several levels.

Already some persons, who are mentioned by Rdr Andreas, and others who are working in ininvisibility, are preparing the floor for fight.

The ecumenical councils were convened by the emperors to resolve challenges to the Orthodox faith and expel heresies. The forthcoming synod seems, so far as I can gather, to be more about ecclesial and administrative matters.

The Georgian Orthodox Church has already come out against one of the more significant and controversial documents on the agenda:

Since all it takes is one vote against any particular document for it to be rejected by the Synod, nothing of any importance is likely to be passed.

A short but very profound article, thank you Lakis. The problems with today's incorrectly defining what ecumenical means. Are the Romans and Protestants coming to repent of wrongful belief and  confess the Orthodox teaching before converting? Pan Orthodox Conference appears to be the wolf in sheep's clothing.
