Hello.

I would like if you could help me to list the contemporary but still living great Orthodox theologians, and fathers/mothers.

And a very short information about them (place they live, age or so).

Thank you.

Giorgos Mantzarides, Emeritus Professor of theology at the Aristotle University, Thessaloniki. He comes to the monastery here in Essex (he was here last week) and was academic supervisor of Archimandrite Zacharias.

Rev Prof Andrew Louth, University of Durham (England).

Is Bishop Kallistos Ware also considered in your opinion as a great theologian?

Metropolitan Kallistos has done great service in making Orthodoxy known in the English-speaking world. Further, as a bishop, he is to 'rightly divide the word of truth' as our services say.

Are there other elders or theologians in the continental Europe (Balkan?), Russia, US?

It would be great to know more about them.

The best-known elder in Russia - who is really considered as an elder - is Starets Kyrill (Pavlov). He is now 97 and confined to his cell by severe illness. His writings can be found on pravoslavie.ru

It is noticeable that the 20th century was rich in elders but many had reposed by the 1990s.

I meant to mention Fr Raphael Noica. Once, at a talk he gave, he was asked, 'if you could meet Fr Sophrony now, what question would you ask him?' He replied, 'I would ask, "what question should I ask?"'

We were all sad when he left the monastery here to go to Romania but it was a blessing for Romania.
