I found no patristic comments on the following issue:

St John as an embryo was moved when his mother met pregnant Virgin Mary.

As an adult was given signs at Lords baptism, and when he was in jail he send over some of his disciples asking "are you the messiah?".

This seems odd: to have understanding of messianic presence as an unborn and to have questions as an adult.

Are there any explanations from church fathers?

Yes. See St John Chrysostom's Homily XXXVI on Matthew, and Blessed Theophylact, on Luke, chapter seven. Both are online. Essentially, John sent his two disciples to ask Jesus the question for their benefit, not John's, because it was John's disciples who needed the answers.
