Hello,

Does anybody know of orthodox monasteries in NY City? I am going to New Jersey for a month and would like to visit some Orthodox places of worship there. Any recommendations?

Wishing a good Lent to everybody,
Cristina

You might start here. I recommend Our Lady of Mercy.

I would like to ask if anyone knows of any monasteries in NY beyond NYC--most specifically, the Buffalo/WNY area?

One of the most well-known monasteries is Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville,NY. http://www.jordanville.org

However, to get to Holy Trinity Monastery, you have to input the city as Mohawk,NY for your GPS, because not all maps services will recognize 1407 Robinson Road, Jordanville,NY as the proper address.

There is also St. Elizabeth Convent nearby, a more recent monastery at which Jordanville monastic clergy serve.

Another monastery in upstate New York is the Novo-Diveyevo Convent in Nanuet, which has a cemetery on the grounds.

There is also New Skete in Cambridge,NY, but it is not for everyone's taste.

Another monastery in upstate New York is the Novo-Diveyevo Convent in Nanuet, which has a cemetery on the grounds.

Novo-Diveeyo is dedicated to St Seraphim of Sarov. In the church the entire northern wall of the sanctuary is an icon of St Seraphim praying on a rock in the forest. Also there one will find the miraculous self-restoring portrait of St Seraphim.
