I remember reading something (I think it was in his book Salt of the Earth a book I absolutely adore!) where Pavlov Florensky was referred to as a saint (in the Intro, of course not written by him) for having been martyred for the faith.

In research it seems that the ROCOR is very much against him ever being considered for glorification for his connections to what seems to be sophism, a heresy. however, there seems to be at the very least ambivalence as to his sainthood in the Russian Orthodox Church under Moscow. many leaders seem to respect him as a saint.

So, I am wondering, is he officially a glorified Saint in the MP? If so, can any one lead me to documentation showing this?

Thanks a lot guys!

Josh

Florensky was associated not only with the "Sofianist" heresy, but also with the "Name Worshippers" heresy. I doubt that he will be recognized as a saint anytime soon.

I think he has been glorified in 2004 or 2005 by the MP. I am not 100% sure because i remember in the Greek Cathedral during the pan orthodox vespers a Greek priest having the talk congratulated the Russians for revealing a new saint, that being St Pavel Florensky.

I wasn't able to find him listed in the MP Calendar for 2010 or 2011.

I made an inquiry about Florensky and one of my elder brother priests contributed this information:

The MP has not officially glorified Priest Pavel Floresnky,
although his martyric death is recognized.

(Of course, in ancient times, martyrs were never officially glorified,
but were considered saints from the moment of their martyrdom).

In 1997 and especially 2007 (decade anniversaries of his repose),
there were special seminars held at the Moscow Theological Academy
remembering Fr. Pavel Florensky, and a Panikhida for him was served.

Archbishop Eugene, the Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy has
published a letter he wrote asking that Fr. Pavel be glorified, but
there has been no action on it yet.

It is important to note that the Icon of the New Martyrs and
Confessors of Russia, painted by Archimandrite Cyprian for their
Glorification in 1981 by the ROCOR, in the list of priest saints
listed by name on the right panel has "I. Pavel Fl." clearly visible,
fourth from the bottom:

Some have tried to say that this was some other priest-martyr named
"Pavel Fl.", but I spoke with Fr. Cyprian about it directly and he
told me it was definitely Fr. Pavel Florensky, the theologian,
philosopher and scientist that he had included on the Icon of the New
Martyrs.

Fr. Cyprian lived and studied in Paris in the 1920's and was well
aware of the writings of Fr. S. Bulgakov and Fr. P. Florensky, so this
was no error.

So it seems my earlier reaction was somewhat in error.

Unfortunately, I can't provide verification, but I recall a few years ago reading something about this icon that the name of Paul Florensky was added to the list in error.
