Mr. Shingledecker should have first searched the Monachos.net message forums before he wrote his book, where not only are we aware of the canon against seeking a jewish doctor, we even explained the historical reasons behind it. I bet you Mr Shingledecker doesnt know the historical reasons behind it nor of the 7th century jewish uprisings which gave rise to it.

What Orthodox Church is not traditionalist? Whats wrong with being traditional, I'll take my traditions over westernized christianity any day of the week.

If only there was such a growing movement within the Orthodox Church of people (and especially hierarchs and clergy)who thought the canons should be followed more strictly. The claim that there is such a large and growing movement, and that this movement poses a serious threat, could not be further from the truth.

I find it ironic how people as Mr Shingledecker accuse converts of traditionalism but these same people wont attack us cradles who truly are traditional. I would like for him to tell my mother or sister to go ahead and recieve Communion when they are menstruating, he will get an earful. And no, it wasnt a priest or canon or man that tells them not to recieve, its passed down by the women in the families who preceeded them. Im sorry that Mr Shingledecker doesnt like tradition perhaps he should look into the modern protestant sects that keep popping up.
