Description: (from both sites)This epic biography of Hieromonk Seraphim Rose tells the unique story of a man who, having grown up in a typical American home in southern California, became one of the greatest teachers of Orthodox Christianity in our times, loved and revered throughout Russia and Eastern Europe.
Quoting at length from his letters, journals, manuscripts, recorded lectures and published writings, this book traces Fr. Seraphim’s intense search for truth and his philosophical development, setting forth his message and offering a glimpse into the soul of a man who lived, even while on this earth, in the otherworldly Kingdom of God.

Any idea what caused Hieromonk Damascene to revamp his work?
A realization that he had not been given an accurate picture of the whole context of the events surrounding the relationship between St Herman's Brotherhood (esp. Fr Herman) and the hierarchy of ROCOR. Fr Herman had (has?) a very unique version of events which in some cases is based on a highly fanciful interpretation of events. When Fr Damascene and the brotherhood of St Herman's Monastery emerged from the overbearing influence of Fr Herman, a new and more realistic interpretation of events came to light. Fr Damascene's revisions reflect that more realistic interpretation of events.
