Are there any books to help a new Orthodox understand what and how the intercession of the saints "works" and how one goes about starting a (more) vibrant relationship with the cloud of witnesses?

Read:  Luke 1.8-13.---->   Revelation 5.8 -----> Rev 8.4 -------> Tobit 12.12-15

In Luke pay special attention to verses 9 & 10. The custom of having the multitude of people praying outside the temple foreshadows the prayers of the church militant. The priest who burns the incense inside the temple on behalf of all those praying outside are the heavenly saints, the church triumphant. Symbolized in Rev 5.8 by the 24 elders.
