I've recently found these two articles that have been featured on Mystagogy, I have been struggling lately with the whole fight between the extremes of the ecumenical movement, and the fanaticism of various schismatic groups in reaction to ecumenism.

Reading these two articles has been calming to me, and enlightening. Both Elders Paisios and Epiphanios condemn the schismatic groups, as well as the groups involved in ecumenism. At the time, this would have been the different schismatic Greek groups on one side, versus a few of the Greek hierarchy on the other. In the middle seemed to be most of the Greek Holy Synod, Monastics and faithful of Greece.

The first is a private letter from Elder Paisios to Archimandrite Haralambos Vasilopoulos, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Petraki, Athens.

The second is a letter from Elder Epiphanios to a Fr. Nicodemos.

Again, as someone who has been really struggling between the fanaticism found on both ends, it has brought me some comfort to know that, as an Orthodox Christian, I don't have to agree with either side and can fall somewhere towards the middle, seeing both sides as erring on the side of fanaticism. Hopefully this can be an encouragement to others struggling with the same thing.
