Good morning all!

I was wondering if anyone knows if the same scripture readings are used in all jurisdictions. Last week in my Greek church St. Matthew's parable of the Sower was read. Would the O.C.A. church (for example) be using that same Scripture reading? Are the readings universal in that way?

Thank you!
Sue

To a certain extent, yes, they are universal in that way. The only difference might in a practice called "the Lukan jump". In some national Churches it is the tradition to "jump" over the remaining readings of the Gospel of Matthew and go right to the beginning of the readings from the Gospel of St Luke following the feast of the Elevation of the Cross. Other national traditions do not do this. Even in a tradition where this is universally done, there will be differences in when the readings from Luke are begun based on the use of the "old" or "new" calendar to set the dates of the fixed feasts.

As often as I hear this discussed, it still never ceases to sound like a strange biblical event at the Olympics.

I thought the Lukan Jump was a dance step!
