Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I have heard that Elder Porphyrios, Father Paisios, and Father Simon Arvanitis, are about to be canonised as Saints in the Orthodox Church. Can anyone here confirm this or shed more light on this topic?
In Christ,
sinner Petros

Hi Peter,
I'm not sure about any of what you said but welcome.
Are you Cypriot by any chance?

G'Day Kosmas,
Thank you for the welcome!
I was born in Melbourne, and my parents are from Greece.
I note that recently, a website that I like very much has been re-vamped and updated. I post the link here for anyone who might be interested in downloading and hearing talks (mp3 format) on Orthodoxy from monks, priests and theologians. There are talks in both Greek and English, and other languages. Talks include Elder Porphyrios in person, Father Paisios in person, and many others.
I rate it as one of the best websites I have ever come across. Here is the link:

I realize this thread is 4 years old, but I just stumbled upon this list of saints from my Archdiocese website (http://www.dowama.org/node/29)I had not seen before. I am still in horror of the even modern day tortures these holy men endured for our Faith. I don't understand how one human can inflict this kind of abuse on another.

If human beings could do what they did to the prophets and then to Christ Himself, what's to hold them back from doing evil to each other? My wife and I have just started to translate the life of St Afanasiy (Sakharov) Bishop of Kovrov (+1962) who spent thirty years in the gulags: it's one horror after another. There's one bit where St Afanasiy hears all night the sceams of an abbess as her body is slowly cut to pieces by guards using a wooden saw. And some of the things related happened in my lifetime.

I have seen icons of them reproduced Mt Athos for sell.
The Greeks tend to wait 50 years before considering someone for canonisation.
