Christ is Risen!

A week into Lent, I was driving with the radio on and my passenger was flipping through stations when I caught a snatch of an interview. The person speaking mentioned something about "... 10,000 martyred...Georgia... under the Turk...refused to renounce faith...tread on the face of Christ...icon..." I cried out to my passenger, "Wait! Wait!" But too late. He couldn't find the station again. Does anyone know the story of these martyrs or should I have my ears and/or head examined?

He is risen indeed!

I have also read this story, so unless we are both hallucinating... I have not found much with a quick web search, just this allusion on the "Orthodox England" (http://www.orthodoxengland.btinternet.co.uk/orthgeor.htm) website. Hopefully some of our Georgian friends will tell us more.

Anthony

There is a little bit more at this Georgian site (http://www.travelguide.ge/Georgia/article1.htm). Please disregard what I said in my original post about the invaders being Persians.
