We are creating a corner in the Nave of our church dedicated to Western Orthodox Saints. We have found ikons for some of the Saints. I was wondering if anybody knew of any good resources. The best I've found so far is at: http://www.orthodoxireland.com/celtic.htm
God bless!!

Chad says:

And I agree. Supersite. (Too bad the Iona pilgrimage link is out.)
Chad, would you by chance have a similer site for Scotland? Or one dedicated to the various pilgrimages?

Regarding information on Western Orthodox Saints, I have often found that such materials are actually abundant on the internet, though not always linked through any central collection. If you know the name of the Saint(s) you are looking for, try searching for material on them particularly (via Google (http://www.google.com) or elsewhere).

St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco was the panacea to my entrance into the Holy Orthodox Church. Many testify to the deeds and intercessions of this Saint and Wonderworker thus this is a fitting thread title for sharing my thoughts and Love for St. John. For St. John is both a Western and Eastern Saint in these latter days. I share this enthusiasm and offer this as a gift for all on this my name day:
Glorify Jesus Christ, Now and forever!
Glory to Jesus Christ, who is wondrous in His Saints.
Today is my name day, the day in which the light of Christ's resurrection broke through the tomb of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, into the darkness of my blind groping after God.
The Psalmist penned "who will tell of thy wonders from the grave?"
Great is the mystery of God in His Saints, for from the Grave has gone forth this proclamation "God is wondrous in His Saints." The bars of Hades have been broken by the glorious Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord and God. And behold, behind him comes a myriad of Saints. Among these is St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco a modern Saint who lived in opposition to modernism. A Saint made manifest in a land where freedom of conscience is praised, but a conscience free from sin is despised as puritanical. In a city whose very name is synonymous with wickedness and unrighteousness and of which evil deeds are crafted for the prosyletization of youth who are yet wandering in darkness, to bind their conscience with manacles of iron, to drag the soul into a deeper pit of the grave, to deafen the High sounding Praises of God.
From inside of the darkness, inside the teeming, squirming pit of worms which the grave uses to drive men to insanity, deceiving them to deny the power of Christ over death; even from the grave today the light of Christ is made manifest through one who entered the grave and has not experienced the worm which dieth not, and from his open grave a light of revelation shone brightly from sea to shining sea. This awesome light illumined even one such as myself across this continent.
Time and space were traversed by this illuminary of Christ and revealed to my heart's eyes, ears and mind that which I could not see, hear or comprehend with my flesh. I humbly fell at once being awed and amazed, yet being also fearful and afraid, indeed even ashamed. For I lived when holiness was made manifest on the earth. Not in the distance past alone was holiness to be known, but even now, by the Glorification of one man, who is at once more than a mere man, for he has been elevated, exalted and glorified in the midst of the Church.
Thus when I finally entered into the watery Grave, I entered following after St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, confident that he would guide me through its darkness unto the Light of the Glory of Christ. Coming out of that Grave I received a reward of which I am truly unworthy, I was blessed by the Church to receive and share in that name.
Oh most precious name, late did I come to hear thee Yet, whenever it is sounded I am filled with joy, and I remember my first encounter as a first love. What can I add to thy numerous marvels O' Saint, revealed in these latter days as: an Apostle, a healer, a teacher, an intercessor, an ascetic, a prophet, a reconciler, a defender of orphans, a comforter to those in sorrow, a builder up of the Church, a grace filled manifestation of the Church of Christ to those who were and are yet far off, these things and more.
The Scripture does say that God rested on the seventh day, yet our Lord Jesus revealed, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." Even so: O illustrious Holy Hierarch Father John, thou has entered into the rest from thine bodily labors for the glorification of the Kingdom of God, yet thy labors continue to produce an interest from within the earth. Thy heavenly labor shines more brightly than even thy earthly labors, for with numerous voice we who in the Church love thy memory testify even now of thy continued zeal in intercessions.
I sing St. John of thy Glory among the Saints and marvel that God has shown such a treasure as You are to such as I am: a squanderer of time. Help me to redeem the time which remains for me.
I humbly pray that all whom I have offended by my MIS-words or deeds would grant me their forgiveness and pray that I a most unworthy adopted son may be given the grace to live worthy of the name of St. John. For I am confident, that if I should attain but a portion of his holiness that that most precious name of Jesus may yet be made manifest even through me. I am unworthy of these gifts, this knowledge, this mystery, and even of this mortal life.
Pray for me, as I pray for you on this Day of my conception. For St. John's repose was for me the grain of wheat, the mustard seed of my Orthodoxy.
Glory to Jesus Christ is wondrous in His Saints.
Sincerely,
John

A couple of the places I'd mention have already been mentioned, so I'll mention again a saint whose name has appeared on another thread, St. Raphael Hawaweeny.
I know that the Orthodox have a rigorous procedure for canonizing saints, but when I heard that after twenty years(?) his body had not decayed, I figured his canonization was a sure thing.
