Could anyone tell me where I can find the prayers for the 40th day, to pray for Fr. Averky?
I think tomorrow is the 40th day. Is it not?
Thanks.

Can't help you with the prayers Warren, but we did have a memorial service for Fr. Averky at our church on Sunday. I thought today was 40 days, but I could be wrong.
May his memory be eternal!!

Warren, the 40th day memorial service in the Greek Church is the same as = that offered at the funeral home during the "wake". It is customarily = called the "Trisagion Service". I understand that the service offered in = the Russian Churches is a much longer one. - John Nasou=20

Sorry just a quick link for you, (got to get my kids to school (Australia)) It is only a couple of prayers.. I can't seem to spell today and so can't find the full prayers online.
Try http://www.orthodox.net/trebnic/soul-saturday.html
These aren't what I used but I'm having trouble finding where I got mine from originally. Very Sorry.
If all else fails just talk to God and ask for all Father's needs say you are sorry you don't know the correct prayers.

Trisagion Memorial Prayer for the departed
"O God of spirits and of all flesh, Who has trampled down Death and overthrown the Devil, and given life unto thy world, give, we beseech thee, eternal rest to the soul of thy departed servant, in a place of brightness, in a place of verdure, in a place of repose, from whence all pain, sorrow, and sighing, have fled away.
Pardon, we beseech Thee, every transgression which may have been committed, whether by word or deed or thought. For there is no man who lives and does not commit a sin. Thou only art without sin, Thy righteousness is everlasting, and Thy word is the Truth.
For Thou art the Resurrection, and the Life, and the repose of Thy departed servant, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with eternal the Father, and Thy Most Holy, and Good, and Life-giving Spirit, now and forever, and for ages to come." Amen
"May our gracious and merciful Lord, who rose from the dead, Christ, our True God, throught the intercessions of His Holy Mother and of all the Saints, establish the soul of His departed servant in the mansions of the righteous; give rest in the bosom of Abraham, and number his soul among the just, and have mercy upon us and save us."
Eternal be thy memory.
These prayers are customarily read for 40 days after the falling asleep of the servant of God.

By my count, which could be wrong, the 40th day is tomorrow, 7/21. But I don't know if the day the person reposes is counted, so it either was today or is tomorrow. I couldn't go today, but I'm going to Father's gravesite tomorrow to say prayers and leave flowers, with Presbytera Donna fromm my church.

Dear everyone, The whole time difference (different countries) thing does my head in, not to mention figuring out which day is the 40th day. Praying early can't hurt, I prayed for father last night coming up to midnight, we'll pray again tonight and somehow we should have got the correct day, anyway God knows that we are meaning to do the right thing for dear Father Averky.

PS I was talking to my choir group last night about Father's 40th day and read out part of one of his messages (Monachos no. 712) that warmed my heart and comforted me during Great Lent this year. I someone always feel that Father Averky is gently reminding me to keep his kind advice in my heart.
From Father...
"As Orthodox Christians, we must alway pray every day and with all our hearts, Do not worry what others say, for in your heart, you know what is right. Great saints like Vladika John were open to everyone. I am sure you have heard the story that when he was the bishop of Shanghai, he was visiting a hopital during Bright Week. In one of the rooms an old Jewish woman was near death, and her family was standing around her filled with sorrow, for she had been a good mother and had lived her life in a godly manner. As he walked by her room, Vladika stopped and blessing the woman with the blessing cross in his hand shouted "Christ is Risen," and continued on down the hall. In a few minutes, the dying woman sat up in bed, and said to her children, "Please, get me something to eqat, for I am very hungry!" She returned home in a few days completely well. You see, Vladika's heart was filled with so much love that his Paschal greeting was sufficient to restore the woman to life!
Of course, we are not such saints, but every one of us of can pray for others and help them perhaps even aid them to salvation. Prayer is our way of speaking to God, it is our comfort in sorrow, our joy in blessings received, it is our way of asking God's forgiveness, it is our very best way of expressing love-for God and our neighbor. Thank you, Irene, for that lovely reminder of Father Averky, and of faith. I think Tuesday was technically the 40th day -- I remembered a few minutes ago Father Raphael sending me an email on the Sunday after Father's repose, the 3rd day.
As has been said, I think -- I believe Our Lord will hear all our prayers, no matter which day.
In Christ,
Melissa

For the record, the day of death counts as the first day, hence the 40th day for Fr Averky was Tuesday July 20. A Pannykhida (memorial service) was celebrated at the All-Merciful Savior Monastery (as well as many other places I'm sure) for the rest of his soul on that day during my visit there.

I joined Monachos.net 2 years after this blessed father of the church passed away. I have been reading many of his posts and am edified beyond description. Please pray with me for our dearly departed Fr. Averky of blessed memory who passed away 5 years ago today or tomorrow depending where in the world you live.
Paul
If anyone would like to link to a particularly edifying post of his, I know I would as well as others deeply appreciate reading them.

Well, I was trying to put a hyperlink to Fr. Averky's profile, but for some reason, I am unable to add the hyperlink. This is one little gem of his I cherish.

When you pray for Fr Averky, out of kindness please remember also to pray for the repose of his mother, Lucia to whom he was a devoted son and who preceded him in death by only a couple of years.
