I wonder if anyone can help me out a little: I'm going to be singing in a concert performance of Gretchaninov's Vespers (in Manchester, UK, on the 11th March, just in case... you know!), and being all enthusiatic about the work at choir rehearsals, I've been asked to provide two things: the programme notes for the concert booklet, and a few notes before then on the liturgical/spiritual place and function of Vespers. It's a 'secular' choir http://www.st-georges-singers.org.uk/ and really they'd like to get their teeth into the music properly by understanding what the work is all about. They're very sincere - some of the altos have been asking about where they can come to an Orthodox service! I've had some ideas as to where to look to research some helpful, accessible information on Vespers and the All-Night Vigil, but I wondered if members of the discussion boards had any further ideas to broaden my search. I'd like to do a good job of it, and I'm sure I'd do much better with your help! Many thanks for your help. L.
PS I'm posting this on the Personal and the Liturgical pages, as I wasn't sure where it would be best to put it - please continue the discussion wherever you feel it should stay! Sorry - just a beginner.
