Dear Monachos Community,

Earlier this year our Government changed laws which seemed to take away rights of workers and give them to employers. Since then I personally know of people who have been sacked from full time work and rehired as casual workers with less pay and less rights.

My daughter Christina is today very distraught because she has been forced to work this Sunday from 7AM to 2PM right through the hours when she would be at Church and she feels she has no right to no. I don't know what to say to her at this stage, she has worked for this business on and off since she was about 14/15 (she is now 18) and they know that she goes to Church every Sunday and they know that she believes that it is wrong to work on Sunday.

The thing is a few months ago the boss sacked a few workers and they are now permanently short staffed and overworked and it seems the boss has no intention to hire anyone else to make this better.

There must be a lot of other Orthodox people forced to work on Sundays due to circumstances. I myself am afraid that I will be in the same situation.

Christina really needs to go to Church on Sunday. Church is not just extremely important to her spiritually it is also her entire social life, because she finds the non-Orthodox (mostly non-Church) people around her very empty and she has nothing in common with them.

Please if you would be so kind, pray that she finds work that respects her religious beliefs so that she can cope with her life.

In Christ

Thankyou Athanasia for your kind words... I'm Christina, the daughter of Irene.

I'll think you'll be pleased to find that my 16 year old brother also loves going to church, in fact he's in the choir :) I have a job interview on Saturday, and I'm praying that I can move on from my current place of work.

In Christ,
Christina

Thanks Athanasia.

Thanks Mathew.
After being a member of Monachos for about 20 months, I am happy to recommend this forum to my older children and other relatives and friends as a very well moderated, friendly and informative site. (With good thoughtful advice from clergy and pious lay members, to help us try to better our lives as Christians).

I don't know how you run this website and forum so well, it must be an enormous amount of work!

forever grateful
