I was curious as to whether or not some of you may have the recepie for fava beans that is used on Mt. Athos. I went there last winter, in the middle of the Nativity Fast, and they served these excellent fava beans, in some kind of orange/red oily substance. Does anyone have any idea how to prepare such beans? Thanks!

Justin, the most important ingredients are love, prayer and God's blessing. With these, even bread served with salt and water can be a delicious meal (according to a former byzantine emperor whose name eludes me).

I remember visiting Mt. Athos during Lent, and Father Palladios kept apologising for the bland food he was serving us (which we found to be delicious). I must visit again now that Lent is over and see just what sort of food he normally prepares for his visitors. Father Palladios was a chef before becoming a monk http://www.monachos.net/mb/clipart/happy.gif.
