Hello,

I have had a question about the history of the paschal canon and resurrection matins in particular. Could someone pass on some reading suggestions. Many thanks.

To the many knowledgeable people out in the Orthodox world. I have a request from a friend who is looking for a text in Greek or possible Slavonic, from Matins of Great Friday, the antiphon - "The Sun Hid its Rays"

If you have it, could you send it to me or at least where I could get it.

Thank You
Br Paul

Dear Br Paul,

Are you sure this is from Holy Friday Matins (ie. service of the 12 Passion Gospels)? I wasn't able to find the text in my English Triodion (maybe I just missed it). In any case a standard text in Slavonic would be the Jordanville Velikii Sbornik-Part 3 (Chast' Tretia) from the Lenten Triodion (iz Triodi Postnoy).

I also have a question about Lenten liturgical texts- would anyone know if for the service for the Holy Ascetic Monastics, served this coming Saturday, there were ever any additions written for Russian ascetics? I ask because the texts (especially in the Matins canon) refer only to ancient Egyptian, Holy Land & Byzantine saints and not to any Russian ascetics. I have always wondered if there were additional texts composed somewhere in the Russian Church that I do not know about.

In Christ- Fr R
