Someone told me today that the Polish National Catholic Church is "in communion" with Orthodoxy. I rather doubt that -- can anyone enlighten me?

Also, what is the relationship between Orthodoxy and the "Old Catholics" of Europe?

Alec … Glory to Jesus Christ! For a very short time many years ago I was a member of the official Orthodox-PNCC Commission in the USA …It was dissolved within months after I was named .. I was a consultant to the Orthodox side for several years before .. I cannot speak about the specifics ….I can say we are not in communion with the PNCC. If you desire any more specifics (if I can give them to you) please contact me directly …. Awaiting the Birth of Our Savior ….Fr George

I am under the impression that any sort of canonical connection between Orthodoxy & the Polish Catholics must have been brief & tenuous if it ever existed at all.
Others would probably know much more about the Old Catholics than I. From what I recall I think there were actual contacts in the past and investigations without there ever having been any real canonical union. There are some who have entered Orthodoxy with roots in Old Catholicism but I don't think in recent times at least any of these people have been received except as any other non-Orthodox.

Perhaps this person may have been referring to the Polish Uniates (also known as Byzantine Catholics or Eastern Rite Catholics), whose ritual is Eastern, but who recognise the primacy of the Pope of Rome. As far as I know, there is no communion between the Orthodox church and this church, as much because of their ties with Rome.
