I know we Orthodox accept Tobit as part of the canon of Scripture though not at quite the same level as the Gospels or the Psalms. And I know that, if I understand correctly, the Orthodox approach Scripture with a different mindset and intent than those of other communions but there are some portions to Tobit I'm not sure how to understand. There are places that seem to advocate deception and another where there is some kind of divination done with fish guts which seems to run contrary to protocanonical injunctions against practicing such arts. Yet we include it as part of the canon of Scripture.
Can someone help me understand how we are supposed to understand and deal with the difficult passages of Tobit?
thank you
