Has anyone read "Ultimate Things: An Orthodox Christian Perspective on the End Times?" I own this book and was suprised it was considered Orthodox [Russia, 3rd Rome view], the view of the anti-Christ and the Temple are very close to the dispensational understanding of these topics.

I have a good book by Archbishop Averky translated by Father Seraphim Rose I think.
It is a patristic commentary on the Apocalypse.
I found it very interesting and non-sensationalist.

I have that book as well. It's based primarily on the ancient commentary by St. Andrew of Caesaria.
One of the things I find interesting, St. Andrew sees in the Apocalypse the prediction that Jerusalem will be divided among three communities. He mislables them (Islam was not on the scene then), but its a very accurate prediction of the current situation (not thought possible by people at the time it was written).
I haven't read the other book, but I've heard people criticising it for its unorthodox style.

I read it a while ago. Overall I think its a good book. The same author has another book on the topic too but I forget the title. He does say that he thinks the Orthodox Emperor was the "one who restrained" the devil who was prophesized to "be taken out of the way" leaving the devil free reign. He said the fall of the last Tsar ( who was the last in the spiritual line of the Christian Roman Emperors**) was that being fulfilled. I've heard that the things expressed in Revelation are actually events that are eternally true and repeat themselves over and over again in types leading up to the final repetition at the end of the age.."many antichrists have already come". The fall of Jerusalem to the Romans being one fulfillment that prefigures the final fulfillment at the end of time for example.... Could it be that the fall of the Tsar was related to that principle in prophecy but its not necessarily the only or last fulfillment of it? Or maybe it is the final fulfillment who knows ?
** Its actually not that novel of an idea in EO Tradition more then a few fathers have said that it was the Roman Empire/ Emperor that was the one that restrained. Some also said that after the last of the roman emperors had fallen the stage would be set for the anti Christ to rise to power. This was long before the Russia = third Rome idea was formed but later some of the saints considered Holy Russia to be a continuation of Rome and that those prophecies of the fathers about the fall of last roman emperor actually applied to the tsar.
I will find some patristic quotes on the subject soon and post them.
