If you see monasteries not listed, please send the data for those monasteries.

Dear Adrian,

Your list is very interesting. In Germany, you might wish to add the Serbian Skete of St. Spyridon. It is located close to Limburg. The Abbot is Swiss and the Priestmonk is German. The novices are a mix. The language of the services is predominantly German, but Serbian, Church Slawonic, Greek (and, if there are visitors, also English and French) are also used.

www.spyridon-skite.de (http://www.spyridon-skite.de)

good luck with your list.

Hello Adrian

May I advise that the email address for Hieromonk Benjamin of the Monastery of Prophet Elias, Monarto, South Australia, has changed. It is now benofelimon@bigpond.com.

Hi.

Presentation of the Virgin Mary Monastery is still listed as being in Canton, Ohio but they moved about a year ago.

They are now at P.O. Box 644 Marshfield, MO 65706 - (417) 473-1157

Their web address is the same, but I don't think they have an email address.

May I suggest some amendments to the listings for the United Kingdom?

Saint Anthony and Saint Cuthbert Monastery

The website for this monastery has been defunct for about two years. It is still available on the internet archive but I have been unable to find a new URL for it. It may be worth removing the old link from the listing.

St Andrew's Monastery

This monastery was a hermitage - the home of Archimandrite Ephrem (Lash). Father Ephrem moved away from Manchester, possibly over a year ago and, to my knowledge, the house is no longer used for religious purposes. Father Ephrem now serves down south somewhere but as for whether he maintains his new home as "Saint Andrew's Monastery", or whether he has a chapel at his new home for services, I do not know. The listed telephone number is still functional but the voicemail inbox is full, which seems to suggest that it is no longer in use and is unchecked. The website also appears not to be current, as it lists Fr Ephrem's services as being at St John Chrysostom's Anglican church. I was the sacristan at that church in my Anglican days and can confirm that those services stopped about 6 years ago, which is also about the same time that one of the listed contacts reposed.

All in all, everything seems to suggest that St Andrew's Monastery, Manchester, is no more, and that the listing may perhaps need to be removed.

St Anne's House

Here are the current details.

Address: 33 Brownlow Street, York. YO31 8LW
Telephone: 01904 626 599
Divine Liturgy Service: English
Established: 2007 by Bishop Basil of Amphipolis
Other: men's monastery
Extended Information/Photos: St Anne's was a small monastic community under a Celtic Christian group but was received into Holy Orthodoxy in January of 2007 by Bishop Basil, and is now part of the Ecumenical Patriarchate's British Exarchate for churches of Russian tradition. The superior is Father Stephen.

The Saint Edward Brotherhood

Address: St Cyprian's Avenue, Brookwood, Surrey. GU24 0BL
Telephone: 01483 487 763
Divine Liturgy Service: English, Slavonic, Greek, Romanian
Established: 1982 by Bishop Constantine of Richmond.
Other: men's monastery
Extended information: In 1979, Archimandrite Alexis received a blessing from the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad to receive the relics of the martyred King Edward and to erect a proper home for them. In 1982, a small brotherhood settled at a cemetery in the town of Brookwood, and gradually turned the old cemetery church into an Orthodox one. This church now contains the relics of St Edward. The brotherhood conducts a full cycle of monastic services according to the traditional Greek typikon, and is currently under the care of the Greek Orthodox Synod in Resistance. The monastery sells candles and operates a book-binding service, as well as publishing the monthly journal, The Shepherd. The superior is Archimandrite Alexis.

May I also request the addition of the following?

The Convent of the Annunciation

Address: 26 Brondesbury Park, Willesden, London. NW6 7DL
Telephone: 0208 459 0263
Divine Liturgy: Slavonic
Established: 1960 by St John the Wonderworker
Other: Women's monastery
Extended Information: The sisterhood was started in 1954 with the blessing of Archbishop John (Maximovitch) of Western Europe for the purposes of spiritual education. The convent had its origins in the Holy Land. The head of the convent with a group of nuns was forced to undergo a barrage of bullets while fleeing their monastery near Jerusalem during the Arab-Israeli war of 1948. The nuns suffered great need, illness and misfortune in their exile for 6 years, until, following 2 years of warm hospitality at Lesna Convent in France, Divine Providence brought them to England, where they founded the Annunciation Convent in 1960. The monastery remained under the care of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad until 2007, when it transferred to the Greek Orthodox Synod in Resistance. The abbess is Mother Vikentia and the convent is served by clergy from the St Edward Brotherhood.

I hope this helps.

In Christ,
Michael

I can add but I do not know the full addresses of 3 more monasteries.

there is a St John of Krondstadt i think it is in Bath it is actually near the church of St John, its a small convent.

There is also a convent under the Thyateira jurisdiction in Whitby where St Hilda's original convent was. It is established as a convent and pilgrims can only visit it under permission and cannot just turn up. The address is in the big directories the Greeks print each year, found in all Greek churches.

St Seraphim of Sarov monastery in Walsingham can count I guess, there is only 1 monk there Fr Seraphim. I think it is under the Sourozh MP jurisdiction.

For those that want to know Fr Ephraim Lash is serving in St Anthony and St John the Baptist church all the way down in Islington London.

I do not know if i should be pleased or not that Poiana Marului skete is not listed :)

Also the one in Ayia Napa is not listed.

The russian orthodox monastery Hl Hiob Pocaev in Munich, Germany is not listed.

Neither any monastery in Ukraine , not even the most Holy monastery of Kiev Pechersk Lavra!

Neither any of the orthodox monasteries in the Netherlands.

Much to do!!!!
