I'm interested in reading the works of Matthew the Poor, especially his exegesis on Mark 16, are his works online?

During the last few decades, a small number of monastics -
Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant - have made a significant
impact upon many churches and other world religions. The
Trappist Thomas Merton of Kentucky, the Russian Orthodox
Seraphim Rose of Alaska, the Protestant Roger Schultz of
Taizé, and the Benedictine Bede Griffiths of Shantivanam in
southern India were all prolific authors. All four of them
were also readers of the renowned Coptic (Egyptian) Orthodox
monk Father Matta El Meskeen (Matthew the Poor).

Are his books in print in English?

Thank you.

There are two of his books in English, great ones, published by St Vladimir's. I get mine from ebay quite cheap.

They are:

Orthodox Prayer Life

and

Communion of Love.

Both are excellent. I find Orthodox Prayer Life to be most helpful in my ow spiritual life.

I am reading his book The Communion of Love. It is very good. I must read it in small bits so as to be able to even absorb a fraction of the joy contained within.

Thank you for sharing these links Nun Theopesta. I look forward to investigating them.

Hi,

I would also recommend his book Orthodox Prayer Life, which I found to be very good.

I understand he was quite a convroversial figure within the Coptic Church, many of his teachings having been branded heretical by Pope Shenouda.

I don't really know anything about the natures of his "heresies", or whether we as Eastern Orthodox would consider them to be such; but just thought I'd bring it to peoples' attention.

I think he got into trouble because he explicitly taught of theosis, and some clergy who had a more scholastic education were offended. But I don't know, I could be wrong. He also had controversial political opinions that got into conflict with the hierarchy of the Coptic Church.
