A friend has asked me to locate some information on the life of New-martyr Romanos of Karp-en-ision (also spelled Karp-en-isi). My usual sources amount to only a couple of lines about this saint. He became a monk, living on Mt Athos, was martyred at Constantinople in 1694, and is one of the New Martyrs of the Turkish Yoke. Was he an old man at the time of his death?

I have also come across a reference which says that a general service for a new-martyr has been written by St Nikiphoros of Chios (when?). If anyone can post the troparion and kontakion from this service, it would be much appreciated.

** the dashes between letters are to prevent the letters from being shown as asterisks, which would defeat the purpose of the post - it seems that the filtering on Monachos is rather diligent...

The Generic Engomia/Funeral Hymns for a New Martyr and the Generic Akolouthia written by St. Nikephoros are available in the Neon Leimonarion (easiest might be to go to: http://anemi.lib.uoc.gr and search for "Νέον Λειμωνάριον"). The apolytikion given is the generic one for a martyr ("Thy martyr O Lord...), and the Kontakion can be found in the service.

Someone translated a slightly longer version of the life of St. Romanos here: http://full-of-grace-and-truth.blogspot.com/2010/01/st-romanos-new-righteous-martyr-1694.html. Otherwise, the book Witnesses for Christ by Vaporis has the lives of many neomartyrs.
