To our wonderful Fathers here on Monachos, please, your blessing,
Would you explain about the bows that are mentioned in monastic literature? I am currently reading," Matericon: Instructions of Abba Isaiah to the Honorable Nun Theodora." The authors speak of 100's of bows a day. Are these referring to full prostrations on the floor or metanoia's, just bowing from the waist and touching the floor? And what if one is in their 50's (like me) and able with great difficulty to get up after just one prostration. I have seen Muslims who just stay on the floor the whole time and bow forward many times. If I was to do say 50 prostrations, would I need to completely stand up in between each one?
Please forgive me if I have in any way offended.
Let God be magnified

The word "bow" is used in different ways depending on the context and author. But I would assume the above refers to full prostrations.

And yes, when speaking of 100 or 50 prostrations, it involves standing up between each one.

However, these kinds of tasks are not something you simply decide to do. You should discuss this with your spiritual father, and he will assign to you what he feels is appropriate for your situation.
