Dear Friends,

I hope this isn't a frivilous question for this section. We are in the process of selling our home and moving to a condo. I have many icons that I have placed in the space I used as an office. I was asked to remove some of them in an effort to declutter the space for the house showings. I have removed them and find it hard to pack them up until we move into our new home in a few months. Does anyone know the proper way to pack them, prayers to recite while doing so, and appropriate manner to unpack and place them in their new space. I have always been very serious and tender about my icons-even if they are only reproductions. I want to be reverent and properly care for them..as they are and have been my "friends". Thank you for your help and your patience. Eugenia

According to the Book of Needs (Euchologion, Trebnik), there are prayers for the blessing of icons, but none that I can see for what to do when packing them away.

Perhaps all that is needed is to give each icon a good clean and dusting, then to venerate it, perhaps saying a little prayer to whoever is depicted on the icon, before carefully packing it in bubble wrap or other suitable material to prevent damage. Hope this helps.

Just treat it carefully and with much respect much like people taking great care in personal belongings or photos.
I bubble wrap mine if i were to move.
