S. Smirnov on Spiritual Eldership

Hello,

Is anyone familiar with the works of S. Smirnov who was the spiritual son of an Optina elder? He wrote a 3-part series:

"Confession and Repentance in Ancient Monasteries of the East" in the Theological Messenger or Herald (Bogoslovskii Vestnik) in 1905.

Since I cannot read Russian, I hoping that a Russian reader can tell me something of what Smirnov said.
