I got this idea from a poster in the thread 'The Lost Gospel of Mary: The Mother of Jesus in Three Ancient Texts'.

Some of us have books we have read and read and read and know by heart or are just not interested in them anymore. Some of us have never seen a book before. I wonder what the ability via PMing each other would be to start a book swapping club.

We would be supporting our representative governments mail systems since the burden of shipment would be on the sender. But like the above poster I mentioned has a book I would like to read and I have a book he just ordered I don't mind giving away.

I would think these books would be free to the one being shipped to with the agreement that this shipper would also be receiving a book from the receiver (ideally)? But does not have to be the case. I don't mean to put a damper on Amazon sales, but I am sure we have enough books amoung us that we could part with a few without being too terribly crushed financially.

What do you think?

Paul, I really like your idea, except that I'd like to have my books back! =) I did, however, give away all of my protestant books. As I gave them away, I realized that I'd kept them, thinking I'd re-read them, but I never did.

However, the orthodox stuff is different. I'm reading and re-reading and I'm sure I'll keep re-reading them! Even the simplest little booklet is worth reading over and over and over again.

I bought a few books at St Tikhon's this past Saturday. They were the ones written by Mother Raphaela. She was the speaker at the retreat, so, I thought I'd buy what she wrote. I saw so many more books that I would like to read. It was hard to just walk out with two books.

Maybe I could take a look at what I've got and list the ones that I could part with. What are the books that you have that you wouldn't mind parting with?

Another possibility is to start a Church library, then you would have books to discuss with others in your community and you may even get to read some books that you would not have access to otherwise.

No, sorry, I do not share. :) <---- this is meant to be a joke.

In any case, Paul, I agree with Mary, that I want my books back. Cause I am lost without them.

Study then, O man, the life according to God, and no one shall conquer you at any time; and although you may be accounted the most insignificant of men, you will be more powerful than all. St. John Chrysostom
