Dear all,

Today we have brought on-line some new features in the Discussion Community, on its technical side, that may be of interest to members. These include:
New drop-down User Control Panel menu on all pages - A new drop-down menu has been added to all pages, for quick access to the most commonly-used functions of the User Control Panel (UserCP). When you click the UserCP link on the left-hand side of the blue navigation bar at the top of all pages, the drop-down menu appears, allowing quick direct access to Private Messaging, Subscribed Threads, User Options, Profile Editor, etc. This drop-down list makes it faster to get directly to these commonly-used areas, without having first to go through the main User Control Panel screen.
New drop-down features for Private Message management on all screens - The small welcome area and Private Message notifier in the upper right-hand corner of all Community pages (the three lines of text that begin 'Welcome username' and indicate your last login, any new PMs; or which displays login fields if you're not logged in) has been updated to include drop-down functionality for quick management of Private Messages. Click the small arrow button to access the list, which includes immediate access to send a new PM, your PM in-box, message tracking, and PM folder management. You no longer have to go through the UserCP to compose a new Private Message.
Numerous enhancements to the Private Messaging interface in the UserCP - The main Private Messaging interface, which is part of the User Control Panel (UserCP), has been greatly improved. New features include:
Your PM in-box and folders display now includes a 'snippet' of the first part of each message. If you've in the past found it difficult to remember which of your 'Re: Comment' PMs contained the text you wish to see, this feature will be of great assistance.
A new 'reply to all' feature for PMs sent to multiple recipients
A tree-style view of all your PM folders and access, found on the left-hand side of the PM area in the UserCP.
Intelligent access for PDAs, mobile phones, and handheld computers - The Discussion Community will now automatically detect if your are connecting to the forum from a handheld device (such as a Blackberry, iPhone, WAP phone or PDA, etc.), and display with a largely text-based interface on such browsers, so as to minimise page download times on slow phone networks, and best fit forum content onto small display screens. We hope members and visitors will enjoy these new features.

Matthew,

I also just noticed when I go the the "New Posts" page, that next to the thread names there is an arrow indicator that will now let you also go directly to the initial post for those that want to review the whole thread. I think this will be helpful for some of us that have to sometimes catch up on the discussion on a particular thread.

Thank you for adding all the new features.

Back from a long weekend (moving child back into college), and see changes, and I thought something was wrong with my computer, LOL!

I used to have, when I saved the Monachos.net on "favorites" in my list, a small icon of the Theotokos. I no longer have that, and have the letter A with rays around it. At first I couldn't find my link to quickly log on. Is this my computer, or did that generate because of the changes? I am still learning how to maneuver around the forum and all the different features. I also now notice these blue blocks (book like things perhaps?) to the left of each forum title. I used to have these little green squares....

I really thought it was because I was so tired!:D

Thank you again for this forum and all its wonderful content and discussion. I am honored to be a part of it.

Katerina

Matthew -- excellent new set of features. The User CP dropdown menu and the green arrow that takes you to the first unread post in a thread have proved especially useful.

Katerina,

I used to have, when I saved the Monachos.net on "favorites" in my list, a small icon of the Theotokos. I no longer have that, and have the letter A with rays around it. At first I couldn't find my link to quickly log on. Is this my computer, or did that generate because of the changes?

My "favorites" links still have the small icon of the Theotokos, and a new favorite I just added as a test also has that icon. Might be something odd happening on your computer (the same thing happened to me on my old home computer, but only with one website, and not this one; never found out why).

If you want to get the icon back and make sure you don't lose it again, you can try this:

(1) Bring up http://www.monachos.net/favicon.ico in your browser. That's the URL for the theotokos icon.
(2) Right click on it, select "Save Picture as...", and save it to a convenient place on your computer.
(3) Right click on the Monachos link in your "favorites", and select "Properties".
(4) There should be a button labeled "Change Icon..." on the dialog that pops up. Click it. If you don't see it, check the other tabs on the dialog (it's under the "Web Document" tab on mine).
(5) A "Change Icon" dialog will pop up. Click the "Browse" button and find and select the icon file you saved back in step 2. Click "OK".
(6) Click "Apply" and "OK" in the first dialog. Your "favorite" should now have the theotokos icon again.

In Christ,
Mike

Thank you so much for all that info! I will certainly try and see if I can do that. I am computer illiterate, and I do try to learn as I go. I really loved seeing the Icon of the Theotokos there...

Hopefully I can set it right again.:)

A million thanks!

Dear friends,

I am glad the new features are enjoyed. I am also a touch amused at so many people discovering the small down-arrow next to thread names on the 'New Posts' search screen, that takes you right to the first new post - as this has always been a feature of the forum! The only difference is that at the moment, the arrow is green; whereas before, it was blue!

Dear Matthew,

Some of us are either unaware or color blind. Either way we are enjoying the new features. :)
