In doing some historical research I came across something interesting.

St. Silouan prayed for God to send his Holy Spirit on the world and teach them his love.

It was interesting for me to note that these men were his contemporaries. Anyone familiar with the lives and teachings of these men will see the connection.

George MacDonald -1824-1905
Andrew Murray 1828-1917
A.B. Simpson 1843-1919
Oswald Chambers 1874-1917

Isaiah 55

7 Let the wicked forsake his way
and the evil man his thoughts.
Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him,
and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the LORD.

9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Could you fill this out a bit more? I don't know who these four people are.

Thanks.

A couple of years ago a nun, Nun Miriam, recommended that I read a book about St. Silouan. I bought the book but it wasn't what I expected. It was just 4 memorials by different men from different countries about him.

Can anyone recommend a book written by this saint? Or better still, does anyone know where I can download some of his writings from the Internet.

My wife has gotten a lot out of St. Silouan the Athonite (http://www.amazon.com/Saint-Silouan-Athonite-Archimandrite-Sophrony/dp/0881411957) by Archimandrite Sophrony (who was St. Silouan's spiritual disciple and amanuensis). Part one of the book is an account of St. Silouan's life; part two is his writings. The link goes to Amazon's listing, if you'd be interested in the book reviews there.

I also found this page (http://silouan.narod.ru/indexe.html) which has a lot of St. Silouan links (some of his writings, various writings about him, liturgical texts, icons, etc.)

Mike

Umm, I am familiar ((in a passing sense)) with these men, but...I don't get it.

Thank you for the link, Mike.

"What shall I render unto Thee, O Lord,
for that Thou hast poured such great mercy on my soul?
Grant, I beg Thee, that I may see my iniquities,
and ever weep before Thee,
for Thou art filled with love for humble souls,
and dost give them the grace of the Holy Spirit."
