What are traditional ways of giving thanks to a saint for answered prayers?

I don't know if this is traditional but I'd put an icon of him somewhere prominent and every day for 40 days light a candle in front of it and say his troparion and kontakion. If he has an akathist, say that as well. Thereafter, remember him during daily prayers and on his feast day. We owe a lot to St Nicholas so we have icons of him around. We regularly say his Akathist. We got these ideas from my wife's spiritual father.

On Athos there are worldly items of great value attached to many of the icons. watches, coins, jewelry, gold beaten in the shape of the body part healed (arm, leg, whole body), Bishops medallions.
All behind glass of course.
