Hi - I posted this post

http://www.monachos.net/forum/showthread.php?p=59779#post59779

yesterday, without any size information. However, this morning it shows in the middle of the quotation the text in larger size (the formatting tag size=2 had been mystically inserted).

Any idea as to why and how?

I know St Paul wrote "See what large letters I write in my own hand", but if the Monachos software wants to automatically enlarge my own posts - should I take this as a sign from God?!? LOL:D

Hmmm... all the text looks normal to me.

Wait - scrap that - I just tried changing font sizes in IE, and most of the quoted text changes size while the rest stays constant. It looks like the <small> tag in the original HTML got changed to <font size="2">, but </small> got ignored and the </font> was instead placed at the end of the quotation where the </p> was.

I have occasionally noticed similar things when I copy-and-paste text from another web page into a post - the formatting is inconsistently copied. One suggestion (if you use Windows) would be to copy the text first into Notepad (which is text-only and removes all formatting), then copy it into the post. Or, you could copy into MS Word and use the procedure you posted back in the Pasting from Microsoft Word (http://www.monachos.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4331) thread a few months ago so you kept any formatting you wanted.

Mike,

Thanks for this - however when I first posted it the text looked normal, but earlier today it had something inserted that I had not put there (unless when I viewed it yesterday it did not show for some reason ...)

Stranger things have happened I'm sure ...

Dear Richard, Mike and others,

I'm not sure about your experience, Richard. Normally, the only time the system manipulates the actual data that stores your message is when you hit the 'Submit' button and the post is saved to the system. That is the moment the server writes the text contents into the database. When the thread is viewed later, nothing is written / re-written; it is simply called up and displayed. So I can't quite think how (technically speaking) it might be that something which was one way on one view, was different on another. But there might be 'ghosts in the machine', to use that old phrase!
