View Full Version : Questions regarding the new complete Orthodox Study Bible

I was looking at a list of who was assigned to each OT book on the commission for the OSB-OT.
I noticed that a "Matthew Steenberg" was assigned to 2 Maccabeas. Is that our very own Matthew Steenberg?
With that said, does that mean that some books may have better scholarship than others? (I'm not judging any of the scholars on there... logic just tells me that some are better than others). Is there a different personality or even slightly different focus to the annotations and comments of each book?
What's the EOB? Is there a link?
I read in a very old post (here, somewhere else?) that the entire OSB OT was online???? is that true?
Don't we as Orthodox have an official canon? What was the official canon of the Septuigent that Christ and the Apostles used? Are we not exactly sure? Why is it so difficult to figure out where 4 macc should be included?
Is the OSB OT based on a translation of the Septuigent or is it just a previously formed English translation of the Hebrew text that copies and pasts verses in and out where the Septuigent differs?
Was the NT updated or edited at all in the new, complete OSB.
Finally, isn't there a translation of the Comptele bible (using the OT Septuagent) with Orthodox annotation produced by some monastery out in Colorado? If so, what are people's thoughts on it and where can one get it?

yes, our very own. He is all ours and belongs to no other. :)

:)
So, then I guess Mr Steenberg would be the man to ask :)
I know you're busy, but if you ever get a chance... :)
I absolutely love your explanations. Your posts are always the sound of reason and tend to clarify everything for me when I am confused in threads.
But, I welcome anyone else's posts. This forum is pretty great in general and usually produces very well thought-out responses.
Thanks everyone!

I heard that it was. Ancient Faith Radio did a podcast interviewing someone about this Bible. You can find the podcast here (http://ancientfaith.com/podcasts/features/P5/) at the bottom of the page. Might answer some questions.

complete OSB.
The notes are updated, but the translation itself is still the NKJV

Not yet, but supposedly Mother Mariam is considering such a project after the final volume of the Synaxarion is completed.
I've found the New Testament published by the Convent to be an invaluable resource, so I would be very happy to see something similar for the Old Testament.
Hopefully she'll team up with Papoutsis to save us having to wait a decade before it's published.

Where does one find this NT from her monastery? Can you link me to their web page. I probably can't afford it now, but I would love to chekc it out. I think my priest got one as a gift and he loves it.

You can ask your priest to borrow the NT maybe... for just a week (when he is super busy). :)

I don't know that he would do that... However, maybe I could ask to see it sometime before vespers and see how I like it. I could take the name down and all of that and check it out on their website or amazon or whereever you can get that to see how many billions of dollars I will need to save up to get one :) lol
