Does anyone know of a recording in English of the Service of Paschal Nocturns/Midnight Office? My initial searches have come up empty.
Thanks for any information provided.

Do you mean the Holy Saturday night service of the Resurrection? If so, you might find a recording here (http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=amandia008&p=r).

I do not believe there is a Paschal Nocturns or Midnight Office. There is the Paschal Matins, Paschal Divine Liturgy and the Paschal Hours which substitutes for the Prayers of the Hours, one of which would be Nocturns.

Herman,
there definitely is a Paschal Nocturnes. I guess it could be termed "Pre-Paschal Nocturnes." It is the short service at the beginning of the Paschal Vigil, usually starting between 11 and 11:30, depending on what type of music being used. This is the service where the priest removes the winding sheet from the tomb during the 9th ode of the canon, before the Resurrection is proclaimed. Since it is technically before the Paschal proclamation, it would not be replaced by the hours.

Andrew,
if you are looking for a recording of the Canon from the Nocturnes on Pascha, you can also look for a complete recording of the Holy Saturday Matins with the Lamentations. It is the same canon during that service. I found this recording in Greek- http://www.liturgica.com/cart/musicInfo.jsp?catNo=AB026
I meant to record my choir doing it this year but didn't get a chance to do so.
The 9th Ode of the canon "Do not lament me O Mother..." is also sung at the Vesperal Liturgy of Holy Saturday as the Liturgy Theotokion.

This is the closest I could find so far, but it is very brief.

One of the other videos on that page has the 9th Ode as well, in the same melody - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hgMoudjg3w&feature=related
I think it would be hard to find an actual recording of that melody unless SVS does it, since they own the rights to the arrangement.

I did not know that. Thank-you. That does narrow it down quite a bit

A new update for this thread, since it came up. Archangel Voices recorded several odes of the Nocturnes canon in the melody discussed above (Znamenny tone 6). It's on their newest CD, Lamentations, and is a great recording. You can here samples and order it here - http://www.archangelvoices.com/titles/lamentations.htm

If you scroll down the page, there are some recordings of parts of Paschal Matins here (http://www.newmartyr.info/orthodoxy.html). Part of the Midnight Office with the removal of the plashchanitsa can be seen here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a2gVvIw3Pg). I have this (http://www.holycross-hermitage.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=CD0102), which is rather good.

I recorded the 9th ode with my choir, but it is by far not professional! Our recording is not copyrighted, but I don't know how to attach a file here. We use the Carpatho-Russian melodies.
