FWIW I just want to say I appreciate the random album pictures on the discussion community area very much! This is a feature that seems to be a blessing on a daily basis to me.

Thanks again,
Rick

Dear all,

As Rick has already noticed, we've today added some new functionality to the Discussion Community, with respect to user albums. These are as follows:

New album features:

There is now a box on the forum's main page (http://www.monachos.net/forum), displaying a rotating selection of four random photos from members' public albums. This is provided as a little 'taster' of what's in the albums. You can click any of the photos to be taken directly to the larger version in the member's album, and from there can browse other pictures in that album, as well as other albums.
In the Contacts drop-down menu at the top of all forum pages, there is a new item called View All Albums (http://www.monachos.net/forum/all_albums.php). This takes you to a new screen which consolidates all member albums into a forum-wide gallery, so you can browse all public member albums from a single source. This is ideal if you're in the mood to browse photos, and don't want to have to do so by going to individual member's profiles.

Existing features and instructions:

The above are new features, added to the extensive set of album features already available. For a reminder of those, and for detailed instructions and examples of how to set up your albums and upload photos, spend a few moments in the relevant section of the Community Handbook (http://www.monachos.net/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_user_maintain#faq_hb_albums).

Now is a good time to update your albums!

The addition of these new features marks a good time to update your albums! Do you have photos you would like to share? Take some time to create albums for public viewing, and to update albums you may have already created. The system allows you to create multiple albums on various themes, to enter detailed descriptions for each photo, to select 'cover images' as the cover photos for each album, etc.

For an example of how albums can be organised, you can explore my own (http://www.monachos.net/forum/album.php?u=1254).

Would you like to be able to upload more photos to your albums?

Would you like to be able to upload more than 20 photos to your albums? We hope so! (Twenty photos go awfully quickly.) If you upgrade your membership to Discussion Community Supporter status (http://www.monachos.net/library/Becoming_a_Discussion_Community_Supporter), you can increase your album quota from the default 20 to as many as 700 pictures, together with an ability to upload larger photo sizes.

This is an unabashed attempt to encourage regular members and participants in the Discussion Community to make a small contribution (from just £1 or $2 per month) to help defray the costs of running and operating the Monachos.net forum and web site. Click here for more information on upgrading to a Discussion Community Supporter account (http://www.monachos.net/library/Becoming_a_Discussion_Community_Supporter), which also includes the removal of all ads, increase of Private Messaging quotas, and various other 'perks'.

If I can make a plug for you Fr. Dcn...

Ya'll, pay the small cost! You have no idea how nice it is to have ALL the ads go AWAY immediately. As Matthew says, there are several advantages to supporting the community of which he listed. More pictures is a definite bonus. When my membership lapsed, I lost 1/2 of my photos I had posted. Also the ads came back. Very annoying.

Besides, how much time do you spend per day or week or hour on this forum? Consider this your movie going out on the night money for what, 3 movies with popcorn? Maybe 2? You get a whole year of interaction with other Christians in a safe setting knowing the server won't go down because EVERYONE contributed to its support.

It's easy. Click a few little buttons and help Monachos.net grow. People give to what they believe in. We have enough regular and part time posters here to easily support Matthew's IT team in their efforts with and for us. Give, you won't even miss it.

Can't afford it all at once? That's ok, put a dollar in the cookie jar every time you log on. See how fast it adds up to the donation price. Do a quarter at a time. I betcha ya within a month you have put back the money for your Monachos.net "habit". Yes, this place is addictive. No there is no cure for it. Maybe we should start a 12 step program for the site...

Now a plug for Nike. "Just do it".

Paul

There is something wrong when you get to the Billing Information page. For Country it will not switch from United Kingdom.

I know there is the option of the user to have their album closed or not to the public. This is all well and good. I would like to ask if those persons albums can be limited from the scrolling views we get. It is deflating to see a thumbnail of a picture which looks very interesting to view only to not be allowed to see it due to not enough permissions. Namely "Byzantine Treasures of Cypress: Monasteries" / "Mosaics". Why have the album if no one can view it? Just a thought.

Paul Cowan, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
