View Full Version : Help in posting

Sometimes when I have written a post, or a private message, when I press 'submit', it disappears (cannot access it by backtracking either) and I am told that I may need to register or log in again, or something like that. It is very frustrating to have spent time writing, to only have it disappear!
Does anyone know why this may be happening?
Thanks,
Alice
Dear Alice,
it happens to me all the time because i talk too much! I don't know if it has to do with the computer, but when I get logged out, I just log in again, without backspacing and my post is still there. It does disappear when I backspace.
I think it has to do with time and level of activity and stuff - so if you're on the site for an hour and just writing small messages and reading a lot of stuff, you wont' get logged off. But if you write one message for an hour, it looks like you're 'inactive' so you get logged off. I dont' know what the time limit is though. I just said 'an hour' off the top of my head. It could be far less.
Hope this helps.

The same thing often happened to me when I first joined the Forum. I think it was for the reason Mary explains.
For the past few years however this has not happened.

Thank you Father Raphael and Mary. :)
This does seem to happen when I am writing a long post or message! I think that it is God's way of telling me to keep it simple and more humble. Verbosity may be leading me to sin. So I accept it as a blessing and a lesson. ;)

Dear Alice,
When you log in for the first time, click the "remember me on this computer" button. This should fix the problem. At least it did for me.

Where is this button to be found?

Its not a button. It is a little box and should be right under your id and password boxes. I am writing from memory since if I sign out, it has been too long and I don't remember my password and I fear i won't be able to log back in. :(

There is a small tick-box next to the 'Username' and 'Password' fields when one logs into the forum, which reads 'Remember me' / 'Keep me signed in', or something similar. Tick this after you enter your username and password, and before you click the button to log in; it will generate a safe 'cookie' on your machine that remembers your login details on that machine until you next log out. This means that you'll remain signed in, even after long periods of inactivity.
More on this is found in our Community Handbook (http://www.monachos.net/forum/faq.php), in the entry, Does this forum use cookies? (http://www.monachos.net/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_hb_cookies)

Indeed, it happened to me again because I forgot to click on the little box...I have to remember to do that every time! :)

I don't think it necessary to "sign out" every time you leave. I just (X) out and when I return to the site, I am already logged in. I don't have to keep checking the little box.

Yes, indeed this is right. This is what Fr Dn Matthew was saying above:

I often manage to go many months being continually logged in. Every time you return the system automatically remembers you from the cookie left on your PC.
