There is a text I've read before in the OT, among the Prophets I think that says in so many words that the punishment/chastisement for sin/iniquity is bound in the sin itself, or as St. Augustine said, "Sin is its own punishment."

I've tried using concordances to locate the passage...but there are just too many entries for sin, punish, chastise, etc. to sufficiently narrow down...and since I can't be sure of the exact wording of even a phase of it (KJV/NKJV) the search parameters are just too big.

So is there any kind soul out there who remembers where this passage is and can identify it for me. Thank you.

How about Wisdom 11:16?

Fr. Bless,

Sorry that's not it. The passage I'm trying to remember is fairly specific on the point.

Thanks for trying though.

How about Psalm 34:21?

"His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, And he is caught in the cords of his sin." (Prov 5:22)

"Thus says the Lord: "Where is the certificate of your mother's divorce, Whom I have put away? Or which of My creditors is it to whom I have sold you? For your iniquities you have sold yourselves, And for your transgressions your mother has been put away." (Is 50:1)

"But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear." (Is 59:2)
