I hope this is in the right catogory. I wish to pray to a father or mother of the church that is known to help women when they want to start a family. Also, any prayers or texts would be wonderful to help me fall pregnant, and even more importantly, help me with the spiritual life of my future child and how I should raise it, being such a sinner myself in this world.
Thank you very much

The two traditional Saints in our church that MOST Orthodox I know go to first are: -
Sainta Anna, the Mother of the Theotokos. If you wish to pray to her directly, you might want to get in contact with the Monastery in Mount Athos. They have a miraculous icon of Saint Anna and it is adorned in "tamata" from the many miracles Christ has permitted her to be the messenger of (I have a personal miracle I know of with her ...my friend gave birth to a baby ON the day of Saint Anna!
The next Saint most Orthodox turn to is Saint Chrysovalantou and her apple :)
Again, these are the two MAIN Saints attributed to this ... there are others also but on a more minor scale but at the end of the day ..it really is Christ and it is about your faith - ALL the Saints are compassionate enought to pray to God on your behalf if you intercede to them in love and simplicity.
God Bless you ...
I hope you have a baby soon :)
V.
Here are a few to get you thinking:
Sts Zachariah and Elizabeth (parents of St John the Baptist)
Sts Joachim and Anna (parents of the Mother of God)
St Irene Chrysovalantou (a particular favourite among Greeks wanting to conceive)
... and, of course, the Mother of God herself!

Thank you both for the info. I haven't been trying for long but I know it's not only eating the right food and things like that. It has to be a spiritual thing too. I guess Im a little worried cause all through school and growing up they tend to say it only takes 1 time, and well it now seems it's much more complicated!
My aunt wanted children her whole life, but never was able to concieve. She only knew her husband, never used the pill and was spiritual person. So I guess I'm a little worried because she did all the right things. Now, she has left the church alittle becuase she doesn't understand why.
I know I sin when I sometimes think that there are people in this world that are horrible to their children yet are able to bear them when others that would make great mothers are not given the chance. I don't know why the Lord allows this but I trust him.
Olga, I know how you feel but try to trust in Him and glorify Him. It is difficult I know and easier said than done but everything happens in God's perfect timing.
Pray to God. Also ask the intercessions of the saints mentioned here and your favorite/patron saints. Relax (do not stress over it) and do not think much about it. Leave it in God's Hands in prayer and go on with your life. Also go to Confession and receive Holy Communion as often as you can.
Also buy ovulation tests and during the time you expect to ovulate, try to test morning and evening (because most of the time the ovulation lasts only 12 hours!).
May God gift you soon a beautiful, blessed baby!

Dear Olga,
One of the most spiritual moments in my life which I have shared with my wife occurred before the icon of St. Irene Chrysovalantou . Both of us were in tears, praying for her intercession. Though we were before her icon for just a few minutes, it felt as if time had slowed to a stop. We left the church feeling several pounds lighter, as if our shoulders were relieved from some invisible weight.
Three months later, we were overjoyed with the news that my wife was with child. The quickening, that is the first movements of the child my wife felt within her womb, happened on St. Chrysovolantou's name day (which we didn't even know it was her name day until several hours later!)
This may seem extraordinary, but it happens all the time. She has performed countless such miracles!
Pray to her for help. She will.

Apolytikion:
Plagal of the First Tone
Not a temporal kingdom on earth didst thou obtain, but Christ, thy most comely Bridegroom, vouchsafed thee heavenly crowns, and thou reignest as a queen with Him eternally; for thou didst dedicate thyself unto Him with all thy soul, O Irene, our righteous Mother, thou boast of Chrysovalantou, and mighty help of all the Orthodox.
Kontakion:
Third Tone
Leaving all the world behind with its impermanent glory, thou wast wedded unto Christ, the King immortal and holy, bringing Him as precious dowry thy maiden beauty and thy trophies won through abstinence over demons. O Irene, our righteous Mother, entreat thy Bridegroom to show His mercy to us.
In Christ,

There are 2 known icons of the Mother of God which I know, that you can pray to for this case.
Mother of God of Albazin
Mother of God of Fertility. (or Royal i could be wrong)

This is amazing Antonios what happened to you and your wife, since it happened to us also! 3 months after we visited the church of St. Irene Chrysovalantou and asked for her intercessions, we found out that we are expecting! :) God is glorified in His Saints!

Is there a church of Saint Irene Chrysovalantou in Australia that has the blessed apples? If not write to the church here in NYC, or the monastery in Greece (Vasiliki knows that monastery) and they can send you. (Or if you would like I can send you the rest of the apples I took in NYC's church - PM me with address if you wish.)
Also pray to Saint Anna for intercession. If you have a church of Saint Anna there ask for some holy oil and anoint. If you do not have church of St. Anna, contact the monastery in Mount Athos and they will help you.

I already sent a private message to Olga, however, I think she should visit the Monastery of Pantanassa in NSW - the Elder of that monastery is very enlightened and so are the two monks under him (one is a childhood friend of mine from before he became a monk so I testify to the character of all three).
If that is hard, there is one OTHER monastery in NSW - all females that is near the Pantanassa. The Abbess of that monastery is gorgeous! I dont know a single person who hasnt visited her and come away - with prayers *unanswered!
The other thing I can offer is to send a piece of Saint Irene's apple that I have had for over 10 years now. If Olga wishes, she can PM her mail details or call me to arrange.

I just read the life of St. Irene (http://orthodoxwiki.org/Irene_Chrysovalantou). Please tell us more about this apple you have. Where it came from, who gave it to you and how it still exists after 10 years. In her story, she ate the three apples she was given.

There is a monastery in Greece, which was founded by Saint Irene Chrysovalantou .... she was seen at night digging the foundations for this monastery.
The piece of apple I have is from this monastery and was given to me by the Abbess back in 94. Another girl I know was trying for children 5 years and both her and her husband were told they could not have children. Her sister is my friend, so when I had come back from Greece she had come over for coffee and I was telling her about the different places and stories and the apple came up and its purpose. She told me about her sister and I said, well, why dont you give her the apple and she prays to the Saint.
Her sister fell pregnant 40 days after this ... and gave birth to a boy on the Feast day of Saint Anna (the Mother of God) if that wasnt a miracle, I dont know what is.
Over the yeas, I give pieces of the remaining apple to friends and women I know who want to conceive. Why the apple hasnt moulded - I dont know; the grace of God perhaps? :)
The apple is not the original from the year of St Irene. It is a custom for the Greek people (maybe other jurisdictions too I would know) but each year, at the Vesper service of St Irene Chrysovalantou, the pious bring the apples to the church and a special blessing is read by the priest (a similar concept to the Fanouropita, right). The faithful then take the apples home and eat from the apple and it is a "mystery" regarding the blessing that is imparted ... but many women who consume from this apple fall pregnant (usually) within 3-6 months ...
I glorify God in this ... he has SO much humility that he permits this miracle to work through the honour of St Irene, his faithful and loyal servant, so that she can be remembered for her dedication to him - through the tearful joy of these parents!
Like I said, my pieice came from the monastery - the abbess had some apples from the Vespers service and she gave me an apple to bring back to Australia ... why in 10 years it hasnt disintegrated is not for me to know but the pieces smell beautiful! :)
Paul thanks for the smiles again. No, we do not have the original pieces of the apples of St. Irene :) I know you asked VV, but I can also add that we have here in USA a church in Astoria, NYC which is dedicated to Saint Irene Ch. And when we visited there they gave me pieces of apple which were wrapped in aluminum foil and in the little plastic envelope there was also a piece of cotton with holy oil from the icon of St. Irene. I got lots of them as greedy that I am :) so I still have although I ate some after receiving Holy Communion. I think the grace of God still is imparted through the blessing prayers and He continues to bless us through His grace. At the church they are so nice, they told me if I couldn't visit I could have simply called and they would have mailed the apples to me.

I am sorry I couldn't reply earlier to the posts but I work all weekend with no time to get to a computer. The kindness of all is so inspiring, thank you so much for all your kind offerings. Antonios was the first person to email me privately so I asked him to send me a piece of apple when he can. I didn't recieve any other private messages.
I am praying daily to St Irene now, and to St Anna I will add to my prayers. It just inspires me to hear the story of St Irene, she was so blessed that God sent her apples from paradise! Can you imagine that?!
I don't think anyone in this world now can be that good, especially me! I think I am going through this difficulty now so I can learn to be more humble.

I have very special news for everyone! Glory to God for his never ending mercy and love!
Around the time of this thread, a piece of the apple was given to a friend of mine called Kathy, she called me today to let me know that she is well over 3 months pregnant (umm, cough, apparantly St Irene worked her miracle immediately).
She took the piece of apple exactly 3 weeks after I personally gave it to her and after a week would have conceived and realised she was pregnant a bit later after that.
This weekend I am going to Sydney, I hope to catch up with Olga (if she answers her phone) to give her a piece of this apple and see if she is well.
I have not forgotten her request to fall pregnant, I really hope that God has granted this and if not that she conceives soon.
Can we all pray for her?
Vasiliki
Thank God for the pregnancy of Kathy dear VV! It is so wonderful that you gave the apple to her. You are such a blessing!
Yes, please do tell us about Olga. I have thought about her often these months. I pray all things are well.

Greetings!
I know of 2 great miracle working methods.
1) When I visited the monastery of Vatopaidi in Mt Athos, I venerated the belt of the Theotokos. Ribbons are touched to this relic and blessed by it. They are given to the men to take to their wives. They are worn as belts around the waist, for 14 days while fasting ( outside the normal period of fasting). The couple also abstains from conjugal relations during this period. At the end of this period the couple comes together. The brothers at Vatopaidi have lost count of the number of women who have been able to conceive.
2) The tears of the wonder working icon of the Theotokos in the monastery of St Nicolas, in the island of Andros, also help women conceive. The woman ingests a little piece of cotton soaked with these tears, and unites with her spouse, and conceive in this manner.
Both items can be acquired by writting to the respective monasteries.
God bless you!

Let me share Olga's email with you all:
M HAVING A BABY!!!!!!
I am 17 weeks 2morow. I was praying to St Irene and St Anna, and my ovulation date was on the same day as St Irene's feast day and I feel pregnant that day!!! It's such a great blessing, but I didnt want to tell anyone until 3 months had passed- my 1st trimester.
If it's a boy I will name him Nektarios, after St Nekatarios, and if it's a girl, Samatha, after my grandfather who I was so close to, like he was my father. I hope St Irene understands im not naming her after her, but I prayed that to her while I was trying, so I think she understands.
Please tell everyone on the forum, as I dont know when I can log in again, please thank them all for their prayers, and thank you so much for being such a wonderful friend, I know God sent you to me, my friend.
YAY! Thank God for Olga's baby too! No wonder about the miracle God worked again through St. Irene.

Thank you so much for this wonderful thread!
I am a newly married Greek Orthodox woman who has been having difficulty conceiving. The doctors have told me that I have a condition that will require fertility medication and more in order to conceive. Even though I have filled my prescription, I feel VERY uncomfortable taking any medication. Back in December, I was feeling extremely upset one day and so I went to my local church, which happens to be St. Irene Chrysovalantou. I lit a candle and said a prayer. At the time there was a sermon going on. My husband and I stayed for al ittle bit and then left. Before we left a pamphlet of what I thought was the Virgin Mary caught my eye. I took a pamphlet and we went home. After reading the pamphlet, I found that it was in honor of Agia Anna, whose nameday it happened to be (Dec. 9). I was unaware of her story and immediately knew it was a sign that of ALL days to feel so frustrated and to go to church, it was HER nameday! I have been searching in vain for prayers or similar stories and today, I stumble upon this site. What a blessing!!! I will be going to church again this Wednesday and asking my priest what the next steps I should take. in the meantime, I will continue to pray to St. Irene and St. Anna and hopefully my husband and I will be blessed with a child soon!!!
god Bless you all!
St. Anna, mother of the Theotokos, is frequently resorted to by somen having problems conceiving.
Dear Penelopi you are doing the right thing! :) May St. Anna and St. Irene help you and your husband and intercede to God so He may grant you both a beautiful, healthy baby boy!

In the early church of Jerusalem (Beit Jala) there is great evidence to support that many barren women would turn to St George the Great Martyr for assistance. Infact, this tradition still holds and it holds not just for Orthodox christians but the Muslim community holds the Saint in high regard for his miracle workings (in general and specifically for child bearing).
He he he Penelopi of course! I do not even know why I said baby boy.
Vasiliki, that is why they place St. George's icon at the entrance door of homes there???

Dear Vasiliki,
This is just a suggestion, but perhaps Olga might consider giving Irene as a middle name to her baby?
The Orthodox church allows babies to be baptized with two, and even three (as in my daughter's case, and she was baptized in Greece) names!!

Three names??????? So we can give more than 2 names in Baptism?????? That will be great because I have many saints I love and our parents' names. :) So they have all these saints patron and that is the name (3, 4 names) written in Heaven for them?

Just remember keep them all the same gender.
Bobby Jo is a girl's name.
Bobby Joe is a boy's name
Nicholas Irene Stephen will surely confuse someone down the road if not the child.

Olga is due to give birth in April ... she had sent me a message a while ago telling me that she was having a baby boy and that she would be naming him Nektarios ... after Easter, I plan to go up to Sydney and plan to catch up with mother and baby (I pray that she has a good birth) ... I think it sounds like she will be having an easter baby :) Yay! Olga (and Kathy my other girlfriend) both conceived through the intercessions and love of St Irene Chrysovalantou and are both about to enter that last period of pregnancy ... it is so exciting ... a double miracle!!

Yasas,
I have joined the forum today as I have been reading all your special stories and amazing advise and because of what I have read I am hoping that someone can assist:
I was wondering if someone could give me the address for the Monastery in Greece so that I can write to them and request for the help of Saint Irene Chrisovalantou to bless me with a child as we have been trying for 1 and a half years. My friend came back from Cyprus last year and she was given the newsletter which I would like to sign up for, she was also given some holy oil along with the blessed apple and tie for around the waist. Can anyone please send me in the right direction? I have been praying every day and I know that one day soon God and Ayia Irini Chrisovalantou will hear my prayers, ideally I would LOVE to go to the church in Greece but at teh moment this is nto going ot be possible.
Thank you all for listening.

This is a link with great info (with info for Panagia & Saints we ask for intercession) for women pre-conception, pregnant women, lehones (post-partum) and mothers/parents. Maybe Vasiliki, or someone else can translate it? Time permitting of course.

I am 48 years old, and very worried! I just got married at 41 and my husband and I got pregnant but miscarried! We have been trying for children for six years! We cannot afford fertility treatments and the doctors have given up on us! They say they see no eggs but I know in my heart we are meant to be parents! I am so scared, started menopause, have not had cycle for 5 months! I am just not ready to give up! I really want to be a mom! I have been praying all along! Everything seems so hopeless! Hello,
It's been q uite some time since I was able to post here, but I wanted to come & share my story.
Since my last post, quite a few things have changed. Primarily, we welcomed our beautiful daughter Annamaria into this world!!!
After not having a womanly cycle for over a year, I had lost all hope of having a child "the natural" way. My doctor confirmed that I would have to take fertility medication in order to conceive. I was devastated. AFter I found this site, I began to pray to Aghia Anna, mother of the blessed Virgin Mary. My husband and I made a "tama" that if we were to be helped,we would name the child Annamaria after the miraculous saint and her daughter. We also visited our local church, St. Irene Chrysovalantou, religiously and vowed to baptize her there as well. That was in December of 09. In March '10, I began acupuncture to help balance my body. That Easter Sunday, I got my first womanly cycle in over a year and two months NATURALLY. On May 7th, I found out I was less than 4 weeks pregnant!!!
I truly believe that the power of prayer is a wonderful and magical thing. It WILL help you if you believe and have faith. I wish you nothing but a lifetime of love, happiness and may God always watch over all of you & may all of your prayers, hopes & dreams be fulfilled.

St. Irene Chrysovalatnou's intercession helped us as well. Did you eat of the blessed apple?
My wife was found to be pregnant about 3 months after we venerated her icon in NY and my wife ate of the blessed apple. Interestingly, the first sensation she had of the baby moving (the 'quickening') occurred on the saint's feast day (which we didn't even know it was until later in the day!)
To Susan, keep praying! With God, nothing is impossible!!

We are never alone and God is always in control, never us -- but we also have to learn to pray "Thy will be done, Thy Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven" and in this we find peace and strength and faith no matter what happens.

St. Irene Chrysovolantou is an amazing saint. Glory be to God! My mother's best friend a few decades ago concieved after praying in the saint's monastery in Greece. Where doctors gave her no hope, St Irene appeared in her dream only asking she donate a few embroidered linens to the monastery after she gives birth and sure enough 9 months later she gave birth to her son.
And her intercessions are not limited to those wanting to concieve. A couple here in America were heartbroken that their daughter was born with serious complications. She was given only a few weeks to live by her doctors. The father began to pray to St Irene and promised he will name the girl after her, if she survives. Today Chrysovolantou is 22 years old and healthy.

Hi I'm new to this, and to be quite honest, over the last few months have I become more spiritual. My husband and I have been trying for almost a year. I go to St. Irene here in NY and I've prayed for us. What I want to know is there a certain prayer to say when praying to St. Irene?

You could always follow the example of Hannah, the mother of the Prophet Samuel, "Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard (i.e. she was silent.) 1 Samuel 1:13 (1 Kings 1:13 in the Orthodox Bible). Speak to St. Irene as you would to a sister, open your heart.
May St. Irene and all the Saints hear your prayer and intercede to our Savior on your behalf.

Hi everyone, my name is Vasiliki and i am trying to conceive. I got married last year on September 26th 2010 to an amazing greek orthodox man. We are now trying to have a baby. Its unfortunate it that i did have a miscarriage in July of 2011. I was very early in my pregnancy and all i can think about was going to St Irene Christovolandou and speaking to her on how can she help us. When i was a baby myself my parents brought me to st irene to heal me so i can walk. My mom prayed to her and spoke to her and she granted my mom and dads prayers to have there little girl walk someday. She gave me the miracle to be able to walk, a few days after my mom prayed and my mom made a "tama" to st irene i stood up on my crib and my parents prayers happened.I was able to walk! I am forever grateful for her miracle and now i am here for my husband to please send us a beautiful healthy baby. I was diagnosed w endometriosis and recent testing showed my eggs arent strong enough to make my own baby. i didnt really swallow the information the specialist gave me as normal. I think they wanted money for IVF rather then trying to be hopeful that a 30 year old women can try to conceive on her own. I visited st irene yesterday the 18th of december and i prayed and spoke to her and lit a lambada. I cried and told her to send me healthy babies that she helped myself and my parents when i was young and im here today for my own conception for kids. I received a belt for my waist and was given st irenes apple . My husband and I pray everyday to St irene i will name my child IRINI if its a girl after the miraculous Ayia Irini christovolandou. I feel such emotions when i walk into your church and positive energy and hope that she will listen to me and grant me a healthy baby or two. WHat is my next step to fertility spirits w st irene. Do i say another prayer then the " pater h mon"? more info will be greatly appreciated.

Dear Vasiliki,
WHat is my next step to fertility spirits w st irene.
Do you mean 'what is my next step spiritually with St. Irene?'
On this link you can find a life story of St. Irene (which would be beneficial to read so that you can fully understand her in a spiritual way) and also there are two prayers which are said on her feast day, which you can read daily. Also you will see a link to the monastery in Astoria, New York. You may want to write or call them and ask if there is a 'paraclisis' (supplication service) booklet which they might have to send you.

Personally, as in all special times of prayer to a particular saint, I think that prayer time should be set aside each day for your prayer intention. I think that you should pray also from your heart to the saint for her intercessions to God on your behalf. Periods of fasting together with your husband for the particular intention you have, coupled with joint prayer, would also be helpful...add faith and patience to that, (God's time is not our time) and I am sure that all will go well and that you will have a baby. All things are possible with God, as you know from the miracle of your walking! :-)
My unworthy prayers for you to conceive and give birth to a healthy baby, dear Vasiliki,

I am at my wits end, went to doctor yesterday, told no eggs left, in menopause, hopeless case! I am trying to remember that god's mercy is endless and with him anything is possible! I just am so scared right now, I feel like I have lost my way! I was seeing all kinds of good signs, he kept showing me, I was really believing, I am so scared! My life is out of control! Please pray for me and my husband! We really want a child!
Dearest Susan,
I pray that God will bless you and your beloved with the fruit of your love, a little baby...indeed, all things are possible with God....
All the best, and may His peace give you courage,
Alice

Today we celebrate the memory of St Anna and the conception of the Virgin Mary. Pray to St Anna that she will grant you a child. I can say from experience that St Anna does indeed pray for those who wish to conceive and is an effective interecessor before the throne of God.

I was feeling very hopeless today as my coworker who is 38 and not trying, told me she was pregnant. I have an IUI being done tomorrow (fertility treatment to conceive) and I started to question why not me. But I came to this thread and I believe it is in Gods hands. With prayer, nothing is impossible. Please keep me in your prayers and I pray I will be able to tell you of another mircales she has created.
I did contact and receive a piece of the apple, and holy oil from the monastery of St Irene in NY.
God bless us!

Through the intersessions of St. Hannah, St. Anna, St. Irene and all the Saints may our God give you a child.
