Description (publisher's): Orthodox Christianity--divided into two main groups: Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox--is now a world-wide phenomenon and one of the fastest growing Christian traditions in the United States. In this introduction to the tradition, the author presents "a reasonably wide-ranging account of modern Orthodox beliefs primarily for non-Orthodox readers," and by examining beliefs and attitudes common in the West, explores whether they can be accommodated to traditional Orthodox teachings. Includes an insert of icons in four-color!

I'm currently reading the book and hope to post a short review next week. I do wonder though of anyone else has read the book and has anything to shrare.

This is an excellent book for those coming to Orthodoxy with no background. I've reviewed it elsewhere (http://easternchristianbooks.blogspot.com/2010/09/david-bells-fine-introduction-to.html) and adopted it for us with my undergraduate students.

First of all, Orthodoxy in the U.S. is not growing fastly, if at all.

Why does the caption under the title say, "Evolving Tradition?" It has the inference of meaning a changing tradition. OTOH, I could be misunderstanding the author's intent. It just seems peculiar to me that the word "evolving" is used.

It is down in my neck of the woods. We had a record turn out tonight for Holy Unction and are baptising people every few months.
