That's alot of eggs (http://saintjameskids.blogspot.com/2010/01/very-interesting-icon.html). I'ld sure hate to try to transport this thing.

Call me a "grumpy old woman", folks, but I can only regard this image, while impressive in its scope and quite lovely to look at, as being an exercise in artistic possibilities, and therefore not a true icon in the liturgical and doctrinal sense. We must be careful to distinguish between the merely aesthetic, and the truly holy.
Though the title "Mother of God of the Hatchery" is quite apt. :))

Hi Olga,
I agree with you. I would rather they use the egg yolks than the whole egg. Besides, it says they used many children and I doubt too many children have developed the skill or grace to be iconographers.
2 1/2 tons of wooden eggs!! I wonder who lathed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lathe) all of them.
