Middle/Passive Participles

Middle and passive participles are created by adding the suffix -men- to the stem of the appropriate principle part, followed by the regular -oV, -h, -on endings (with the intervention of a thematic vowel in some tenses). Composite endings are shown on this page.

Present Middle/Passive: The stem from the first principle part is used, plus the thematic vowel o:

Present Middle/Passive Participle:

Future Middle: The stem from the second principle part is used, again with the thematic vowel o:

Future Middle Participle:

Aorists: The first aorist does not use the thematic vowel, but replaces it with the characteristic -sa-, as seen in the example below:

First Aorist Middle Participle:

The second aorist participle has the same endings as the present participle, but they are placed on the stem of the third principle part (and do not include augmentation). As the endings for the present middle/massive participle are listed above, they are not re-listed here.

Perfect Middle/Passive: Endings for the perfect middle and passive participles are placed on the reduplicated stem, with no augmentation and no thematic vowel:
