Greek Fonts
Typing
in Greek on Your Computer
There are a multitude of Greek fonts available for use on both Apple Macintosh
and Microsoft Windows/PC computers. Most of these are available free on the
Web, and include just about every variation of style, form, regional character
and special effect imaginable. Those interested in obtaining such fonts might
try searching for "Greek Fonts" on a public search engine such as Google
Monachos.net recommends the Scholar's Press font: SPIonic. This font contains the full Ionic Greek alphabet that became the standard form used in antiquity, and is still used in the modern day. SPIonic produces a clear, elegant text both on the screen and especially in printed form, and lacks the 'chunkiness' that makes many other Greek fonts look so akward. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, it includes all the accent and breathing marks for Classical/Ecclesiastical Greek, allowing them to be inserted above/below their appropriate letters by a single keypress, without need for a special macro. SPIonic is available free as an internet download. Click here to download SPIonic and obtain installation instructions. |
